Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 this Thursday, Jan. 8, in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Despite the team coached by Diego Simeone being superior in shots, shots on target, possession (51%), passes (476), and pass accuracy (90%), they could not beat Xabi Alonso's team.

Federico Valverde opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, and Rodrygo made it 0-2 in the 55th minute. It was Alexander Sorloth who brought Atletico de Madrid closer in the 58th minute, but it was not enough.

The match was marked by a controversy involving coach Simeone and Vinicius Jr.

What Happened Between Diego Simeone and Vinicius Jr.?

According to a transcript from Movistar Plus, the Atletico Madrid coach engaged in 'mind games' with the Brazilian, telling him, "Florentino (Perez) is going to kick you out, remember. Remember that he is going to kick you out. He is going to kick you out. Remember what I'm telling you."

In recent weeks, there have been rumors placing Vinicius outside of Real Madrid, specifically at Chelsea or some club in Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian's situation is not the best in the Spanish capital, as he continues to be a constant target of racist insults from different fan groups. Something that is quite uncomfortable in Spain.

Vinicius has been vocal about it and tends to defend himself. But a large section of the press often sides against him, opting for silence or directly not defending him. This has not gone unnoticed by the Brazilian and his entourage. We will see what the future holds for him.
