Matheus Cunha’s first appearance for Manchester United didn’t go unnoticed, with fans quick to share their thoughts on the former Wolves forward after a pre-season match against Leeds United.
Cunha became the first signing of Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford, joining from Wolves early in the summer window. United had already triggered his release clause before most clubs had even started their business.
The 26-year-old Brazilian joined United after they activated his release clause at Molineux, and the Red Devils didn’t wait long to get the deal done.
Wolves received a £62.5m fee for Cunha, who was officially unveiled by United in June as one of Amorim’s top targets.
Cunha had impressed during his time at Molineux, scoring 17 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions in the previous season.
The Brazil international joined up with his new teammates last week as United began pre-season training under Amorim – and yesterday he made his debut for the Red Devils.
Matheus Cunha was thrown straight into action by Ruben Amorim as Manchester United began their pre-season tour in Europe.
United made the trip to Sweden to face newly promoted Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Solna.
Cunha took up a familiar role, slotting into the left-sided No. 10 position he often played during his time at Wolves.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, were quick to highlight his ball-carrying skills, especially after a strong first half.
“We finally have a ball carrier in Cunha,” one fan posted.
Another added: “Cunha’s movement. Every move is a potential foul from the opponent. We needed a ball carrier, [we now have] him. Motion.”
There was more praise for his ability on the ball and how it could help United going forward. “Only real positive [of the first half] was Cunha’s performance. His ball-carrying is going to be so crucial,” another fan posted.
A fourth wrote: “Cunha’s ball-carrying is quite elite; can’t lie.”
“Cunha’s ball-carrying is the best in the team [and] not even Bruno [Fernandes] can touch him,” another suggested.
Amorim’s side showed plenty of energy in the first half, with Cunha already beginning to make an impact in United’s attack. However, neither the Red Devils nor the Whites managed to score before the break – a pattern that continued into the second half, with the match ending 0–0.
The No. 10 did not return after half-time, with Mason Mount coming on in his place.
United will now head back into training before flying out to the United States for their next round of fixtures.
The Red Devils are scheduled to face West Ham at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 27th July as part of their US tour.
