What Oscar Højlund expects from brother Rasmus next at Manchester United

The brother of Rasmus Højlund, Oscar Højlund, has outlined his expectations for the team’s top scorer thus far this season.

Following a sluggish beginning in the league, Rasmus Højlund has now begun to build on his brilliant performance in the Champions League, having scored goals in six straight Premier League games.

The run began when Højlund scored a spectacular winning goal for Manchester United against Aston Villa, and the Erik ten Hag signing became the youngest-ever player to do so when he scored against Luton Town last weekend.

Having taken his time to settle in Manchester, it looks like Højlund is only going to get better and better with each game.

“I saw his very first goal against Aston Villa. We were over there to celebrate Christmas,” Oscar Højlund told Danish magazine Tipsbladet.

“We were really excited and genuinely happy for him because it meant so much to him. We celebrated the goal as much as he did, so he was happy there.”

Oscar went on to say that he and his family are very proud of their brother Rasmus and that they hope he can keep up his good work.

“I watched the highlights after the Luton game as well. The family and I are incredibly proud. He had a bit of a tough start over there, and now he’s shown how mentally strong he is and bounced back. I hope he can continue.”

He lives in Manchester, of course, but his family remains in Denmark; Højlund’s 19-year-old brother, Oscar, is a midfield player for Copenhagen.

“We focus on our own things, but of course, we do everything we can to keep up with how each other is doing, and then we talk after the matches,” he continued.

“In fact, we talk daily as much as we can. We are quite close. We try to exchange a lot of things and ask how each other is doing. Then we also play a little PlayStation together, so it’s fine.

“I would say I’m the best at playing PlayStation.”

Oscar has added an explanation, saying that he is receiving a lot more attention now that his brother is a football celebrity.

“It has changed (the attention) because my name is Højlund, but again, I mind my own business. I don’t put much into it. It’s still the same focus I have. I want to become the best version of myself, and then we’ll see where it takes me.

“No, I’m not (tired of hearing about my brother). There’s a lot about him, and I’m happy for him.”

United host Fulham in the next match on Saturday and Hojlund will be determined to take the team closer to the top-four.

ten Hag’s team is targeting a top four finish in the Premier League and their transfer business in the summer could depend on their qualification to the Champions League next season.
