‘What you all deserve’: Fernandes addresses fans and touches on prospect of leaving with heartfelt message
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United has been at the centre of widespread speculation over the past fortnight.

In numerous reports that took the United faithful by surprise, it was claimed that the Portugal star was keen on embarking on a new venture elsewhere this summer after four years at the club.

Since signing in 2020, Fernandes has been one integral and irreplaceable cog at the heart of the team, often proving to be United’s most dependable player week in, week out.

He has just claimed the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for the third time, following a maiden term as Erik ten Hag’s chosen club captain – a role that many fans had been calling for him to have almost instantaneously.

As such, the prospect of Fernandes bidding farewell is one that supporters are unable to get to grips with, especially amidst such a tumultuous period for United; they’re on the back of a lowest-ever Premier League finish (eighth), but the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his entourage has inflicted optimism amongst the dejected fanbase.

Fernandes pens touching message to United faithful

The skipper has spoken out with a heartfelt message to the Reds ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup final, telling The Players’ Tribune: “After this difficult season, it is my responsibility to give more. It starts with me. And it starts tomorrow. We have to give everything in this last match against City, and we have to move forward.

“I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream,” he declared.

“I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go [and] talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing. We want to compete for the league. We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.”
