If Inter and Napoli finish level on points, the 2024-25 Serie A winner will be decided by a Scudetto playoff to be played on Monday next week.
Napoli lead Inter by one point in the Serie A table with just one game remaining, so there is still a chance that a Scudetto playoff will determine this season’s title winner.
It would be the second time in Serie A’s history, but this unique match will only be played if the two contenders finish level on points.
Napoli will host Cagliari in the final round on Friday, while Inter will visit Cesc Fabregas’ Como. Both Cagliari and Como have already secured survival.
The Serie A title race has attracted considerable interest even outside the country, and many fans have predicted the outcome through 99Bitcoins Sports Betting. Last summer and until a few weeks ago, defending champions Inter were seen as the natural favourites for the Scudetto, but Napoli’s consistency has proved to be a tough test for the Nerazzurri.
Inter wasted a chance to overtake Napoli at the top of the table during round 37, when they were held to a 2-2 home draw by Lazio, while Napoli’s away game at Parma ended in a goalless stalemate.
Lega Serie A has scheduled Inter and Napoli’s last games of the season for Friday. If it goes down to a Scudetto playoff, the game will be played on Monday, May 26. This will leave four days for the Nerazzurri to prepare for the Champions League Final against PSG on May 31.
Inter were furious with refereeing decisions in their home game against Lazio, so none of their team members spoke to the media after the match.
On the other hand, Napoli spoke to reporters through coach Antonio Conte, who admitted being exhausted.
“We are close to the Scudetto, but we still have to take that final step. It will be taken on our home turf, with the support of our fans,” Conte told DAZN.
“It is a very difficult campaign, we have achieved what we wanted to do, which was to trouble the leaders to the end. We have been at the top for a long time, despite a season full of difficulties, but we never complained, we kept going and we are right there to achieve something unthinkable and historic for Napoli.
“Winning at Napoli is certainly different to winning elsewhere, at clubs that are accustomed to collecting titles and trophies.”
Napoli have just won three Serie A titles in their history, the last one two years ago under Luciano Spalletti.
