Emma Raducanu has parted ways with coach Francisco Roig after a disappointing start to the 2026 season.
Raducanu brought in Roig after Wimbledon in 2025, but results haven’t improved under Rafael Nadal’s former coach.
She opened the new campaign with three wins and three losses across the United Cup, Hobart International and Australian Open.
No replacement has been named yet, though Andy Murray’s name is already being linked to the role once again.
Murray’s name often comes up when discussing potential coaching roles, especially after his brief spell with Novak Djokovic.
He was even linked to Carlos Alcaraz following the Spaniard’s split from Juan Carlos Ferrero at the end of 2025.
But Murray has hinted that working with someone closer to home might be more practical, given his current lifestyle. Speaking to The Daily Express in 2025, he explained that it’s not coaching itself that puts him off, but the travel involved.
“It becomes easier because the off weeks, at least you are close to home,” he said last year. “But if it is a player who lives elsewhere, it means a lot of time away from the family, and I have no interest in doing that just now because I don’t want to be away from them.”
That might not be the only appeal for Murray to come back out of retirement to join Raducanu as an advisor.
Raducanu took part in 22 tournaments in 2025 and has already stated she wants to cut that number back even further in 2026.
“I would say next year I hope to play less than I did this year, but I think also just incorporating into my warm-ups fitness, so it’s not just my fitness sessions which are set for it,” she said to the BBC back in December 2025.
If Raducanu ends up playing between 15 and 20 events next season, that lighter schedule might suit Murray perfectly if he’s considering a coaching role.
Murray knows exactly what kind of scrutiny comes with being a British player and could offer valuable support on the mental side of the game. The Scot also found his own stride physically around the same age Raducanu is now, making him well-placed to guide her through similar challenges.
