Why Did Trinity Rodman Miss Out on USWNT Roster?
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The United States women’s national team will be without star forward Trinity Rodman for its upcoming friendlies against Italy.

Head coach Emma Hayes named a 26-player training camp roster. Rodman’s name was a notable absence.

The 23-year-old Washington Spirit forward hasn’t represented the USWNT since April. She is continuing to recover from a knee sprain.

Rodman was called up to the October roster, though she did not play due to injury. Across 47 international appearances for the United States, she has scored 11 goals.

It is unclear how much Rodman will play in Saturday’s NWSL Championship against Gotham FC. She came on in the final minutes of Washington’s semifinal victory over the Portland Thorns.

The 5-foot-8 forward nearly scored in her brief cameo against Portland. When she entered the pitch, the crowd let out loud cheers at Audi Field.

Rodman and the Spirit will face Gotham FC in the NWSL Championship on Nov. 22. The match will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
