Will Thomas Frank reshuffle his midfield? Predicting Tottenham lineup vs PSG – Opinion

Thomas Frank & his men will be heading to Paris this midweek. And going into the game, the Dane head coach knows that he cannot afford a repeat of the performance that Tottenham Hotspur put in at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

The North Londoners were taken on a ride by Mikel Arteta’s side (FT 4-1). It was a goal from Trossard followed by a hat trick by Eberechi Eze which turned the mood at N17.

And now we are watching a lot of fans and supporters frustrated given the lack of offensive output from the North Londoners of late. And with the Lilywhites’ safety-first approach exploding already at N5, Tottenham will go to Parc des Princes with a heavy head and a motivation to prove their credentials.

Thomas Frank will be expected to get away from that back-five tactic which has got Tottenham into this mess. The Lilywhites should return back to that familiar 4-3-3 shape with a bit of reset in the middle of the park, complemented by adding some fresh attackers as the Dane head coach looks to save face.

Predicted Tottenham lineup vs PSG

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

While Tottenham conceded four goals against the Gunners at the weekend, Vicario still managed to have a strong performance, with his reflexes saving the visitors a few times. But he needs to have a better game with the ball at his feet. The 29-year-old who apologised to the Lilywhites supporters after the Arsenal game put in a lot of blind long balls at the Emirates Stadium, and he needs to avoid doing the same this midweek.

Defence: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie

Tottenham will switch into a back four again. Kevin Danso will drop out of the eleven to aid that backline shuffle.

While Djed Spence had a strong performance at the weekend compared to his teammates, Porro comes into the eleven once again. The Spaniard has that quality on the ball and the experience to take the pressure that this Wednesday presents, which gives him the nod.

While Romero will miss next weekend’s game against Fulham given his bookings accumulated into a suspension, the Argentine will be at the heart of Spurs’ defence alongside his partner in crime, Van de Ven.

And at the left back, Udogie keeps his place. He was left a bit exposed against Bukayo Saka against Arsenal, and he will have to be better in those defensive moments against PSG.

Midfielders: Palhinha, Sarr, Simons

Bentancur had quite an underwhelming performance against the Gunners, and he is expected to drop out of the starting eleven with Sarr taking his place. Palhinha will keep his place at the base of the midfield, though. Sarr will be expected to play more of a box-to-box role this midweek, while Palhinha would be more of a primary ball winner at the base of the midfield (much like he did against Arsenal but hopefully with more poise).

Simons struggled at the Emirates after coming off the bench, but he will take up that role to get the ball into offensive zones given that Bentancur will not be in the second phase.

Forward: Kudus, Muani, Odobert

While Richarlison did score that wonder goal against Arsenal, his overall performance was nowhere near what warrants a start against PSG in the midweek. And someone who knows that Paris roster in and out will take his place as Randal Kolo Muani finds his place upfront for the North Londoners.

Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert are expected to keep their place in the eleven, given both of them have been in strong form lately.

Predicting Tottenham’s lineup vs PSG (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Sarr, Simons; Kudus, Muani, Odobert
