Tottenham shocked the footballing world earlier last week after announcing the departure of Daniel Levy. The sudden decision to part ways with the Englishman ended Levy’s 24-year stint at N17, during which the Lilywhites experienced both highs and lows under his stewardship.
Many fans were unsure how to react to the news, with several reserving judgement on Levy’s tenure at N17 for now. Reports later suggested that the Lewis family had decided to part ways with Daniel Levy after the Englishman failed to turn Spurs into serial winners. Under Levy’s leadership, the North London club was solely focused on becoming a commercial powerhouse, prioritising sponsorship deals instead.
Nevertheless, credit where it is due. Daniel Levy did manage to build a solid platform for Spurs to take the next step and challenge for more trophies. The Lilywhites now boast a world-class stadium, a state-of-the-art training facility, and endless revenue streams, all thanks to Levy’s ability to make Tottenham financially stable.
The shock decision to relieve Daniel Levy of his duties was something no Tottenham fan expected. The Englishman had been an ever-present figure at N17 despite constant scrutiny from both fans and the media. However, the Lilywhites are now hoping to cross the final hurdle and win trophies on a consistent basis following Levy’s departure.
Cristian Romero has also taken the opportunity to thank Levy for his long-lasting impact at N17. Speaking in his pre-match presser (via Football.london), Romero said,
“I don’t know what’s happened, but it’s not something I’ve had the chance to speak with him personally, but he’s a person who’s been at the club for a good many years. We need to thank him, because he’s the person who brought me here to Spurs.”
The Spurs defender added,
“Fortunately, we could crown his reign with a trophy, which would have made everyone happy, including him. I just desire the very best for him, and it’s his decision, and we wish him all the best.”
Cristian Romero admitted that he has not been in contact with Daniel Levy since the Englishman’s departure from the club, but he expressed gratitude for being brought to N17 in 2021. Romero also noted his satisfaction that the players were able to end Daniel Levy’s tenure at Hotspur Way on a high by winning the Europa League last season. And the Spurs defender has wished the former club chairman every success in his future endeavours.
It remains to be seen how the North London club will operate without Levy. Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham is believed to be taking charge of all footballing matters for the time being. However, it is important for the club to build on the foundations Levy created and challenge for trophies on a consistent basis.
