Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to The Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth in matchweek two of the Premier League. Wolves are looking to bounce back after a heavy defeat to Manchester City. Under the guidance of Vítor Pereira, they look to improve on their 16th-place finish last season and need to get some points on the board against the Cherries to kick that off. Here is our Wolves predicted lineup.
Last time out against Man City, Wolves stuck with their 3-4-2-1 formation with José Sá in goal, and a back three of Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou, and Toti Gomes.
The midfield four consisted of David Møller Wolfe, João Gomes, André, and Ki-Jana Hoever. The forward line was made up of Marshall Munetsi, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, and Jørgen Strand Larsen.
Wolves’ season started under a bit of a cloud with a 4-0 thrashing at home to Manchester City, although there were positives, Wolves looked bright and caused problems for the first half hour until the defence collapsed, showcasing the defensive vulnerabilities and lack of firepower up front.
Tactically, Pereira uses a 3-4-2-1 sy stem with wing-backs that can transition from defensive to attack. He looks to build from the back using a three-centre-back set-up, aiming for compactness and fluid connections through the midfield four. Yet inconsistencies in pressing, pressing triggers, and shape retention remain concerns, as exposure to rapid counterattacks exposed them against City.
Pereira had this to say during the pre-match press conference:
“We have to improve a lot of things (from the City game). We did some good things and know what we must correct. When we make a mistake against these kinds of players, they score.”
Wolves don’t face any selection issues going into the game against Bournemouth.
