Wolverhampton Wanderers face Leeds United at Molineux on September 20. Wolves will be eager to try and earn their first league win of the season, with the club currently bottom of the Premier League table after four straight defeats. Manager Vítor Pereira will also be hoping to repay the confidence the club has shown in him with a three-year contract extension. Here is our Wolves predicted lineup.
Last time out against Newcastle United, Pereira made some changes to the lineup. Sam Johnstone replaced José Sá in goal due to illness. Yerson Mosquera made the lineup in defence alongside captain Toti Gomes and Emmanuel Agbadou. Ladislav Krejčí made his debut in the midfield alongside João Gomes, Rodrigo Gomes, André, and Hugo Bueno. The forward duo consisted of another debutant, Tolu Arokodare, and Hwang Hee-chan.
In the last game against Newcastle, Pereira shifted from his usual 3-4-2-1 to a 3-5-2 formation. This was potentially due to the injury to Strand Larsen, but for periods in the game, they looked more solid in midfield than they have recently, and the wing-backs, particularly Bueno, caused Newcastle all sorts of problems down the flanks.
Wolves’ form has been nothing short of dreadful, with no wins in pre-season and no league wins. The most recent was a 1-0 loss to Newcastle, where a first-half goal from Nick Woltemade sealed the win for the Magpies. The Molineux club desperately need points from this game to get themselves off the foot of the Premier League table.
Strand Larsen has been back in training following his recent injury. In his pre-match press conference, Pereira had this to say:
“He trained yesterday, and I hope tomorrow (against Leeds) he can help us. Not for 90 minutes, but during the game.”
GK: José Sá
Defence: Yerson Mosquera, Emmanuel Agbadou, & Toti Gomes
Midfield: Hugo Bueno, André, João Gomes, Ladislav Krejčí, & Jhon Arias
Forwards: Hwang Hee-chan, & Tolu Arokodare
