As Manchester City continue their treble defence the summer transfer window is slowly coming into view. With that in mind, the world champions have been linked with a host of players. One of those players is Wolves winger Pedro Neto. David Ornstein has reported for the Athletic that Manchester City are one of a host of clubs with an eye on the Portuguese star. With that in mind would Wolves dynamic winger fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad?

There is no doubt that Pedro Neto’s quality will be an asset to whoever can secure his services this summer. He has shone for Gary O’Neil’s side so far this season. Neto has scored 3 goals and added 11 assists this campaign in 19 appearances. His pace and all-around ability have caught the eye and he’s been a key part of Wolves rise to 11th in the Premier League table. As a player, Neto has the potential to slot into any top side in the Premier League. But does his game fit into Pep Guardiola’s system?

Pedro Neto could add a different dimension to Manchester City

As a player Wolves dynamic winger is closer to Jeremy Doku than players previously employed on the right wing by Pep Guardiola. Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden have typically featured on the right wing in recent seasons. The trio are technically brilliant and have featured prominently in Manchester City’s control of games. Pedro Neto while having similar ability is more of a direct winger in the Jeremy Doku mould. He has shone for Wolves this season with his ability to take on a man and utilize his pace and technical ability. Neto isn’t a typical Manchester City player as such but he could bring a different option to City’s right wing.

Manchester City’s reported interest in Pedro Neto could also point to Pep Guardiola evolving City’s system next season. The City manager has always been ahead of the curve tactically. It was his shift to more control of games that led to his team’s treble success last season. Could the City manager be building his next masterpiece by shifting to more direct and pacey wingers next season? It could be where Wolves dynamic winger fits in next season if he does arrive at the Etihad in the summer.

Conclusion

Pedro Neto is no doubt a quality player and whoever signs him in the summer if he leaves Molineux will be adding a bonafide match winner.

Wolves dynamic winger has the tools and talent to succeed at Manchester City. If he were to arrive at the Etihad how his game fits into Pep Guardiola’s system would be fascinating to see play out. He could be a game-changer in how Manchester City play and point to a change of system from City’s legendary manager.
