Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand expressed his delight with Matheus Cunha who’s producing the goods on his club bow.

The Red Devils are hosting Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League season. The Gunners have been leading the contest since the 13th minute when Riccardo Calafiori pounced on a blunder from Altay Bayindir who failed to clear the ball after being outmuscled by William Saliba.

Nevertheless, Ruben Amorim’s men have dominated possession from the get-go and came very close to scoring on several occasions.

Cunha delivers inspiring performance on Man United debut

With Benjamin Sesko starting on the bench, the versatile Cunha led the line for MUFC, while fellow debutant Bryan Mbeumo started right behind him on the right wing, with Mason Mount sneaking into the starting XI to complete the attacking trident.

While Mbeumo certainly had flashes of brilliance, Cunha has arguably been United’s most impressive start on Sunday. The Brazilian has been lively, fiery and an absolute menace for the Arsenal defences.

On one particular run from midfield created havoc for the Gunners in box, but Mbeumo wasn’t able to apply the finish.

Yet, despite the unhappy ending, Cunha’s effort didn’t go unnoticed, with social media buzzing with words of praise. Ferdinand joined the fray with a three-word post on X.

Rio Ferdinand & Clinton Morrison hail Cunha

For his part, BBC pundit Clinton Morrison was more vocal, as he described the former Wolves star as ‘unbelievable’, while revealing how his addition has made Old Trafford a much more exciting place on match day.

“Let me tell you, the touch from Matheus Cunha is unbelievable. Ben White has to buy a ticket to get back into the ground!” said the former Republic of Ireland striker

“I wasn’t excited coming to Old Trafford last season, but I am excited coming to Old Trafford this season.”

That being said, Man Utd are running out of time, as they only have a few minutes left to find an equaliser.
