A WWE superstar has shared their passion for Chelsea Football Club, revealing how a British family background first introduced them to the sport.
The wrestler explained that their connection to the club began in childhood, when time spent living in England helped spark a love for football.
They also opened up about how football fan culture has influenced the world of professional wrestling, particularly the atmosphere and chants at live shows.
The comments highlight how football’s global reach continues to inspire athletes and entertainers from beyond the sport itself.
WWE superstar Chelsea Green said her connection to the club goes back to her early years, crediting her British family for introducing her to the game.
“I’ve been a Chelsea fan for life,” she told the Chelsea website before the Blues’ 2-0 win against Brentford.
“My grandparents are British, my mum is British, my cousins and uncle are here, and I also lived in Devon when I was seven and eight years old.
“My family introduced me to football through Chelsea, although my grandpa was an Aston Villa fan and we had a little rivalry going.
“I was always wearing Chelsea merchandise growing up and I had a Chelsea beanie, which was in this safety kit I had in primary school.
“These are things you have in case you have to shelter in place – pictures, granola bars, other emotional attachments – and in mine was a Chelsea beanie.”
Green explained that her family ties to England made supporting Chelsea feel natural.
Despite a light-hearted rivalry with her grandfather, who followed Aston Villa, the bond with Chelsea only grew stronger.
Green also spoke about the similarities between football supporters and WWE fans, noting that the energy in European arenas often mirrors that of a packed football ground.
“The amazing crossover I’ve seen between football and WWE is the chants you guys have,” she explained.
“They have trickled into wrestling now and we all love it so much. One of our favourite parts about coming to Europe is the football chants that we get now in the arenas.”
She said the crossover between the two fanbases has become one of the most enjoyable aspects of performing in Europe.
