Xavi is one of the greatest football players in modern history.

That’s fact.

During his playing career with both Spain and Barcelona, the La Masia graduate won everything there is to win in the game.

Playing alongside fellow great Andres Iniesta, the pair ran the show whenever they were on the pitch together.

Manchester United fans will be all too familiar with the technical skills and ability of Xavi.

That’s because The Red Devils lost to a Barcelona team including Xavi in two UEFA Champions League finals – in 2008/09 and again in 2010/11.

His honours board from his playing career include 8 LaLiga, 3 Copa del Rey, 4 UEFA Champions League and 2 FIFA Club World Cup titles.

And the trophies didn’t stop once he hung up his boots.

Since stepping into management, the former midfielder has continued bringing home silverware.

Xavi won LaLiga in 2022/23 when he led his beloved Barcelona to the title as manager.

At present, however, there is another man in the dugout for La Blaugrana.

German manager Hansi Flick is in that position and doing quite a job.

Xavi, on the other hand, is unemployed since being dismissed by Barcelona in May 2024.

Ever since he left Camp Nou, many have wondered what the next step is for the Spaniard.

And with Manchester United having fired Ruben Amorim this week, many have speculated whether he’d be in contention for the hot seat at Old Trafford.

We now at least know what Xavi is leaning towards when it comes to the top job at Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Xavi is open to the idea of managing Manchester United.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist also confirms that there are no current negotiations between the club and the former Barcelona manager.

“The first one some of you are asking me is Xavi and Manchester United. Guys, at this stage I’m not aware of any negotiation or talks taking place between Xavi and Manchester United.

“As of today then, Manchester United will have their process to decide their future permanent manager. So let’s see what’s going to happen there. As of today, still nothing advanced or nothing concrete.

“What I can tell you is that Xavi would love to take a job in the Premier League. Xavi feels ready for a new chapter. Xavi feels ready to return after his Barcelona experience and taking some time to disconnect.

“So Xavi is ready and Xavi would love to work in Premier League one day. So Xavi would be very open to that opportunity.

“But at the moment, I’m not aware of anything advanced or concrete with Manchester United”.

From what we can gather from Fabrizio Romano’s comments, Xavi would be very open to the idea of joining Manchester United.

However, the club haven’t made any moves or opened any talks with the former Barcelona man in that regard.

Currently, the club are looking to appoint an interim manager, with many reports suggesting Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be taking charge.

The hierarchy at Old Trafford will then assess the options for a more permanent head coach in the summer.

And if Fabrizio Romano’s comments are true, then they’d have a very willing man to step into the role in the shape of Xavi.
