Manchester United’s recruitment work is increasingly being shaped by Ruben Amorim’s rebuild project, wanting immediate impact while still fitting a long-term squad plan.
That has naturally put a spotlight on younger wide options across Europe, especially those already producing numbers at the top level rather than simply showing potential.
One such individual is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande who United are looking to as a back-up option for Antoine Semenyo.
Now, talkSPORT have reported that RB Leipzig have effectively put their opening stance on the table for Yan Diomande.
It’s understood that an asking price of £87 million has been put on the 19-year-old winger as interest continues to build across Europe.
The valuation speaks volumes on how quickly Diomande has gone from being a relatively unknown name to a player viewed as one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe.
The Ivory Coast international was playing semi-professional football in America as recently as 2024, before making a rapid leap into the European market.
While he started his European career in Spain, Leipzig signed him in the summer in a deal worth £17.5 million from CD Leganes.
Since then, he has broken into Leipzig’s senior set-up and delivered immediate end product.
With seven goals and four assists across 16 appearances this season, his contributions have inevitably put him onto the radar of some of Europe’s elite clubs.
However, should United fail to sign Semenyo, their attention would not turn to Diomande until the summer.
Previously it was reported that any big money move for a midfielder would not happen until the summer, with the same approach seemingly being applied to Diomande’s price tag.
Realistically, a fee of this size would likely need to be part of a wider, carefully planned window rather than a quick January decision.
As such, Diomande is a name that looks set to be on the Old Trafford radar for months rather than days, with Leipzig’s stance making it clear they expect any conversation to start at big-money levels.
