Manchester United’s summer rebuild is beginning to gather real momentum.

After securing one midfield signing, the Red Devils have wasted little time moving for another Premier League proving player.

The club’s recruitment team have targeted proven quality this window, with midfield identified as one of the biggest priorities following several key changes.

Now, another deal has crossed the finish line.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed, via X, the move with his trademark “Here we go”, revealing that United have activated the Belgian international’s €41 million (£35 million) release clause.

Youri Tielemans has also reached a verbal agreement with the Red Devils and is now set to become the club’s latest summer arrival.

The move comes after United decided to walk away from a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the club quickly turning their full attention to the Aston Villa star.

Tielemans will follow Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos through the doors at Old Trafford as Carrick continues rebuilding the heart of his midfield.

The Belgian arrives with a wealth of top-level experience.

Across spells with Leicester City and Aston Villa, Tielemans has made more than 240 Premier League appearances, while also earning around 90 international caps for Belgium.

Last season was one of the strongest of his career.

He helped Aston Villa secure Champions League qualification and lift the Europa League, earning widespread praise for his performances throughout the campaign.

Tielemans also impressed on the international stage this summer.

Captaining Belgium during the World Cup, he played a leading role in their run to the quarter-finals and scored twice in a dramatic comeback victory over Senegal before injury ruled him out of the defeat to Spain.

Villa had hoped to keep the midfielder and were keen to offer him improved terms, but the release clause in his contract left them powerless once Manchester United decided to trigger it.

With Santos already secured and Tielemans now set to follow, Manchester United’s midfield overhaul has taken a major step forward as Carrick prepares his squad for the 2026/27 season.
