Richarlison might stay at Tottenham next season after Everton move falls through

Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison has endured a ‘stop-start’ season under Ange Postecoglou. The Brazil international has struggled to stay fit for most parts of the campaign and has fallen down the pecking order at N17. It is fair to say that the 28-year-old’s move to the North London club has not worked out and Daniel Levy will look to cash in on the forward once the season ends.

Spurs are facing a massive squad overhaul in the summer. The Lilywhites have endured a disastrous campaign and Daniel Levy will look to cash in on underperforming players. The Spurs No.9 is still a fan favourite at the club, but Tottenham might have to sell him to generate funds for new signings.

Richarlison has just not got going for Tottenham. Several injuries and lack of game time have halted his progress at N17. The ex-Watford striker has managed to score just five goals and provide two assists in 21 games this season. These are not impressive stats for a team that wants to compete for trophies.

Tottenham forward Richarlison linked with a move to Everton

It was reported earlier that Richarlison was surplus to requirements at N17. The 28-year-old was also linked with a move back to Everton as they viewed him as a perfect replacement of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Spurs No.9 was also open to the move as he wanted regular game time and moving to Everton would mean that he would play regularly in the Premier League as well.

However, the proposed transfer has hit a stumbling block as Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that the Toffees are not considering a move for the 28-year-old. Speaking in his presser, Moyes said (as transcribed by the BBC),

“Richarlison is a really good player and someone I’ve liked. But I can only tell you there is zero truth in that from my side.”

This might mean that Richarlison would have to look at alternatives in the summer. However, Spurs are in no pressure to sell the Brazil international and might keep him for next season if a suitable offer does not come in. The forward still has two years left on his contract, so Tottenham will not look to force a move for the ex-Watford man.

Keeping Richarlison might mean that the club will not go for a replacement striker when the transfer window opens. The Lilywhites had their eyes set on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and saw him as the potential successor of Richarlison. But if the Brazilian stays at N17, then there is a strong possibility that Daniel Levy might choose to utilise his funds to improve other areas on the pitch.
