All things considered, the AUSL Cup is a competition that will display 60 of the best softball players in the country. Although playing on teams, it is every player for themselves as the point system allows for great games and play. That being said, the first doubleheader took place on Saturday afternoon at Holly Springs, North Carolina. Here is a recap of Games One and Two from Ting Stadium.

Game One: A Memorable Debut For A Gator

In this matchup, pitchers Aleshia Ocasio (Team Blue) and Lexi Kilfoyl (Team Orange) faced off in the first-ever AUSL Cup matchup. Danielle Gibson Whorton gave Kilfoyl’s squad the early lead in the bottom in the first inning with an RBI double. However. Ocasio’s team tied it up as Korbe Otis scored on an error in the top of third. In the bottom of the sixth, Team Orange plated two runs with RBI singles by rookie Kendra Falby and veteran Sydney McKinney.

Otis would hit a solo home run for Team Blue in the top of the seventh, but would not be enough. Ultimately, Team Orange got the 3-2 win and a total of 70 win points. Falby won MVP 1 honors, going two for three at the plate with the aforementioned RBI. Kilfoyl went the distance, striking out two and winning MVP 2 honors.

For Team Ocasio, Otis was the MVP 3 as she went three for four with the homer and RBI and Anissa Urtez was the Defensive MVP.

Game Two: Pitching And Defense On Full Display In The AUSL Cup

The final game of the doubleheader featured Team Gold, captained by outfielder Amanda Lorenz, going against Team Purple, led by pitcher Georgina Corrick. Without question, this game was about the circle and fielding.

In this case, the lone offense of the game came from Kayla Kowalik. She hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth for Team Gold. Kowalik would be the MVP 1 thanks to the RBI in the 1-0 win for Team Lorenz.

Rachel Garcia continued her dominant pitching from the regular season, taking home MVP 1 honors. Garcia went all seven innings, allowing a hit with two strikeouts while Lorenz was the MVP 2. Lorenz went two for four at the plate in the win.

Lastly, Sierra Romero won Defensive MVP of the thanks to a great play from second base:

Team Corrick and Team Kilfoyl will face off at 1:00 pm ET on ESPNU as Team Orange looks for another win while Team Purple looks to get into the win column.
