All things considered, the second half of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) season began with great pitching performances. However, the bats made a return for a game at The Stadium at Parkway Bank Sports Complex. The games were night and day from each other, but entertaining for the fans in attendance in Rosemont, Illinois. Now, here’s a recap of Games 27 and 28 of the inagural AUSL season.
Here, the Blaze faced the Bandits in a game where the offense was back and forth from start to finish. First, Kayla Kowalik and McKenzie Clark each had RBIs in the top of the first inning to give the Blaze an early 2-0 lead. Erin Coffel cut into the Blaze lead with an RBI triple to put the Bandits on the board in the bottom of the inning. In the second inning, both teams especially found the power at the plate.
The Blaze scored five runs in the second inning with RBI doubles from Korbe Otis and Aubrey Leach to lead off. Then, Danielle Gibson Whorton added an RBI single and later scored on a throwing error as Ana Gold scored. Now down 7-1 entering the bottom of the second, the Bandits added four runs. Skylar Wallace and Coffel each added an RBI via a walk while Bubba Nickles-Camarena hit a two-run single, making it a 7-5 game.
Furthermore, Otis added a sacrifice fly RBI as Leach hit a RBI double, adding to the Blaze lead in the top of the third at 9-5. However, the Bandits scored three in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI single by Sydney McKinney and a two-run double by Morgan Zerkle. Following an Aliyah Andrews RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth and an Anissa Urtez RBI double in the sixth, the Blaze held an 11-8 lead.
Delanie Wisz added an RBI in the bottom of the sixth for the Bandits, closing the gap once again. In the seventh, Otis hit a solo home run for the Blaze while Zerkle hit an RBI for the Bandits. In the end, the Blaze notched win No. 3 of the season with a 12-10 win. What’s more, a combined 32 hits between both teams (17 – Blaze, 15 -Bandits) made the softball matchup exciting.
Emma Lemley got the win, going three innings as she allowed three hits, a run, and struck out five. For Lemley, she’s third in the in strikeouts with 22.
Unlike in Game 27, this softball game between the Volts and Talons saw the offense be at a minimum. In the case, it was with good reason that was the case. Sam Landry (Volts) faced off against Georgina Corrick (Talons) in the circle.
The offense began in the bottom of the second for the Talons with a RBI double by Sharlize Palacios. Next, Sydney Romero added an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 2-0 lead for the Talons. Lastly, Jadelyn Allchin hit a solo homer as Caroline Jacobsen hit an RBI double to close out the offense as the Talons picked up 4-0 win.
Corrick went the distance, getting her fourth victory of the season and league-leading second shutout. She allowed just three hits as she sat down five. For Landry, she went four innings, allowing four hits, and two earned runs in the loss.
