Without question, the inaugural regular season of the AUSL is winding down and provided fans with great games. The postseason is looming in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but one more series is taking place, as well as in Rosemont, Illinois. Plenty of offense was on display in Games 45 and 46 of the season to delight of the fans. What’s more, the awards are here. Let’s recap the first games of the series from Tuscaloosa and Rosemont.
The Volts and Talons kicked off their final series in Tuscaloosa as the Talons have punched their ticket to the postseason. Tori Vidales got the Talons on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. Caroline Jacobsen added an RBI via a walk as Bri Ellis hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the inning. However, the Volts answered back with two-run home run from Erika Piancastelli in the top of the second and solo one from Jessi Warren in the fourth, tying the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jadelyn Allchin gave the Talons the 4-3 with an RBI single. Also, the hot bat of Maya Brady continued with a two-run single in the fifth inning, adding to the Talons lead. Despite a Sierra Romero solo homer in the top of the sixth for the Volts, the Talons held on.
The 6-4 win is No. 18 on the AUSL season for the Talons. Montana Fouts got the win, going four innings and allowing four hits, three runs with six strikeouts.
Additionally, Georgina Corrick picked up league-leading fourth save of the season, throwing the final three innings of the game. More on Corrick later.
Like the Talons, the Bandits will be the postseason as they face the Blaze one last time in Rosemont. To start, Aubrey Leach scored for the Blaze on an error in the top of the first inning. Kayla Kowalik added an RBI double in the inning for a 2-0 lead. The Bandits took the lead in the bottom of the first with an Erin Coffel two-run single and a Jordan Roberts groundout RBI. Yet, the Blaze answered in the top of the second with six runs on the board.
Here, Aliyah Andrews hit an RBI on a fielder’s choice to tie the game 3-3. Then, Leach added an RBI single to give the Blaze the 4-3 lead. Baylee Klingler hit a two-run double to right center as Ana Gold slammed a two-run homer to round out the offense in the inning.
For the Bandits, Morgan Zerkle hit her AUSL-leading ninth home run in the bottom of the second.
The 12-6 victory for the Blaze is win No. 7 on the season. Aliyah Binford got the win after going four innings in relief. She allowed four hits with five strikeouts.
Given that the season is near its close, the AUSL handed out a couple of awards. Firstly, some familiar names on the All-Defensive Team:

It’s important to note that, Corrick, Coffel, Gold, and Warren each took home another honor for their efforts this season. In this case, Corrick is the Pitcher of the Year in AUSL as she was dominant in the circle. She is leading the league in complete games (4), opponent batting average (.202), ERA (2.04), and shutouts (2).
Furthermore, Flippen, Corrick’s Talons teammate, won Defensive Player of the Year. She is second in the AUSL with seven double plays and tied for second in assists with 38, possessing an impressive .969 fielding percentage. In addition, Gold took home Rookie of the Year honors as the Duke alum is fourth in slugging percentage (.704) and hits (28) this season. She is currently second in triples with two.
Finally, Coffel is the AUSL Hitter of the Year as her bats has delivered consistently. Coffel is second in OPS (On-Base Plus Slugging) at 1.447 while leading in RBIs (27). The all-time leader in Kentucky Wildcats softball in home run is tied for fourth in homers at five.
The biggest award of the season, Most Valuable Player, will be announced prior to the start of the AUSL Championship game on July 26.
