For much of the world, the Jersey Shore represents an ethos, a specimen of human, with orange-hued spray tans, crunchy hair gel, and the stench of Axe body spray – thanks to a certain reality TV show.

Beyond that show, this stretch of New Jersey’s coast is home to some of the region’s best, and most iconic, surfing. Longtime Jersey photographer Ryan Mack has spent the last decade documenting waves and surfing in the Garden State, and he’s compiled it all into a book, titled The Shore.

According to Mack: “With over a decade of experience documenting the dynamic beauty of the Jersey Shore, my photography captures everything from powerful hurricanes and major swells to coastal wildlife and serene seascapes all from both land and sea. Being in the water allows me to create immersive, up-close imagery that reflects the power, grace, and emotion of surfing in its most honest form. I also document the changing seasons, from the harsh, snow-covered winters to the vibrant, sun-soaked summers that define life on the New Jersey coast.”

So, with the book releasing online and coming to print soon, we had Mack share a few of his favorite shots, along with captions courtesy of the man himself. Keep scrolling for some dirty Jersey gold.
