“50 Drones Over Ocean” in New Jersey, Officials Say (Video)

The other night, whilst driving just east of Oceanside, California for some last-minute holiday shopping, I spotted something strange in the sky. And it wasn’t just one, but three. A trio of iridescent floating objects, ranging from very high in the sky, to just above tall buildings. They hovered silently, flashed different colored lights unlike planes or helicopters, then disappeared into the dark.

My first UFO sighting, I thought. I was psyched.

But my encounter was nothing special; this is happening, and being picked up by mainstream media at unprecedented levels compared to the past, on both coasts of the United States. In what feels like the inciting incident of a sci-fi thriller flick, countless Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) have been sighted over the course of several weeks from New Jersey to California.

As of now, for reasons unknown, it appears that the sightings have been largely centered on the coastal regions of the country. Like, for example, one of the most recent encounters of 50 drones (that’s what they’re calling 'em, but nobody’s really sure what they are) over the ocean in New Jersey.

“We got notified by a 911 call,” Sheriff Michael Mastronardy of Ocean County, NJ said in a statement. “There was concern of a sighting in Island Beach State Park. We responded. We met a certified New Jersey law officer, not from our department, from another agency. That officer did an excellent job. She documented. That’s where you get the reports of 50 drones over the ocean. That’s what she reported seeing. She reports she saw 50 drones, coming from the ocean to the mainland.”

South of Jersey surfing hotspots, like Manasquan Inlet, Island Beach State Park is a quieter, more rural stretch of coast. But there’s waves there, too, perhaps less crowded than the main NJ focal points.

And since they seem to be sticking around near the ocean, the mysterious drones are being spotted by Jersey surfers, in addition to civilians with cellphones. NJ correspondent, Jon Coen, told SURFER:

“They seem to be out there most nights. I did a sunset paddle the other night and saw some of them hanging around, but I am nearsighted. There’s definitely something going on. We are basically at Ground Zero, but the surfers aren't particularly worried.”

This is a developing story.
