If all goes according to plan, in a few years, Londoners will be surfing.
Surf London – a wave pool project in Lee Valley Leisure Complex in Edmonton, North London costing $60 million – has received planning approval from the London Borough of Enfield, which means, the project is on its way to becoming a reality.
As for the specs on the pool, they’re looking to incorporate Endless Surf – the same stuff we’ve seen in Munich, Germany (see below) – for their wave-making technology. And if they’re able to keep to the schedule, they plan to complete construction in 2027.
Surf London is from the same folks behind The Wave Bristol, another UK wave pool operation, which incorporated Wavegarden’s Cove technology. But for the London pool, they’ve decided to go in a different direction. Hazel Geary, of Crest Experiences, explained:
“We are incredibly excited to work with the Endless Surf team on our next inland surf destination. Having watched the success of their first surf park launch in Munich, we can’t wait to deploy their innovative technology to bring perfect waves for all to North London. As a pioneer in the surf park sector, we have always chosen to be technology agnostic, as realize that different developments have different requirements and restraints. We partnered with Wavegarden to open the world’s first Wavegarden Cove in 2019 at our Bristol site, which has been a great commercial success. Now we are delighted to be working with Endless Surf, as the right tech partner for our London project.”
Now that the provisional planning permit has been granted for Surf London, Crest Experiences is looking to begin construction in 2026. Then, by 2027, they’re hoping to finish. As for the grand opening date? That’s still TBD. Keep an eye out for that.
