Should there be more two-fin-only surf contests? William Aliotti has made a convincing case. While this year several invitationals, the J-Bay Classic and Four Seasons Maldives Championships, have a twin fin division, Aliotti’s brainchild demanded twins at all times in southwest France last October. And leave those trailers at home, too.
Alan van Gysen and the astute team at Now Now Media just dropped a sizzling highlight reel of the pre, post and main festivities. In all, there were 27 men and women invited, from local talents to renowned savants. Names who heeded Aliotti’s call were Chippa Wilson, Brendon Gibbens, Ozzie Wright, Tosh Tudor, Asher Pacey, Maud Le Car, Mckenzie Bowden, Luke Cederman, Juliette Lacome, Eric Geiselman and many more.
“I’ve been surfing twin fins for the past five years,” Aliotti said. “I just wanted to create something different, new and something that I like. Because twin fins are the things that I really love. “
No elimination, three sessions a day, where style and creativity are the main drivers. By the surfers’ accounts, the format took off the competitive edge while still leaving a high performance bar. The video above and the gallery below demonstrate the sheer speed, ferocity and range going down at a lovely sandbar in Seignosse.
“It was a helluva mission to talk to those guests and riders,” Aliotti explained. “I chose those people who are freesurfers and are doing exactly what I do — traveling, having a good time and looking for the best waves. To make them come all together is super special because they’re all legends, amazing surfers and super stylish.”
In addition to creating and labeling an original beer for the occasion, Aliottia and Monster Energy cobbled up $10K for the winners. After the comp ended and drinks poured, the surfers deemed that Victor Bernardo and Ainara Aymat would each pocket $5,000. Not bad for a few days of ripping in France.

It's hard to imagine an event like this, with talent like this, coming together to ride twins 15 years ago. But tastes change, boards are refined and momentum builds. As a smart man once said, "Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another." Consider Aliotti's guest list energized.
