Kelly Slater’s Baby Name Revealed, Creates Custom Surfboard

Kalani, captioning the clip in honor of International Surfing Day, wrote:

“Happy International Surf Day! Seems appropriate to get a new board for it! (This was actually last week for Father’s Day!) We grew up in a house with endless arts and crafts, paints and goop, beads and sewing. It was fun to make a little mess for this Father’s Day present for Kelly. Thank you @jason_miller and @michellejunelee for helping with the paint and hiding the present, @travlee for setting it all up, @dan__mann@slaterdesigns@firewiresurfboards for the magical new dad board.”

You may recall, when news of the baby had dropped, Kelly and Kalani were cagey when it came to the boy’s name. After his birth, Kelly said: “We actually don’t call him anything. We gave him a name for his birth certificate, but as of now, we don’t have a name we call him. We’re kinda just letting him figure out what his personality is.”

But now, it’s official. (In fact, it has been for a while, but whatevs.) Although the couple have kept the baby out of the public eye since his birth, he does have a name now: Tao. In Chinese philosophy, Tao means: “the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order.”

Big shoes to fill for that young boy. Not to mention the Slater DNA, too.
