In the modern wave pool era, the brave new world of synthetic surfing, there are numerous players, all vying for supremacy. But which is the best? Well, it’s somewhat of a subjective matter – as with what types of waves surfers prefer more generally.

However, according to blooloop.com – “the world’s most read news source for visitor attractions professionals” – they’ve come up with a wave pool winner.

According to their analysis of nine wave pools worldwide, Lost Shore Surf Resort in the UK came out on top, earning the title as the “world’s best surf park.”

The accolade was awarded from Mike Gladys, who, “[has] traveled across the United States and around the globe to experience 27 different wave pools. My first-hand experience as a regular paying customer allows me to remain unbiased and offer undiluted opinions on what each unique surf park has to offer.”

Lost Shore, which is located near Edinburgh, Scotland, is Europe’s largest wave pool, utilizing a 52-module Wavegarden Cove facility. According to reports, despite the unlikely surfing destination, Lost Shore is wildly popular. In its first year in operation, the surf park generated £18million ($23.75 million) in profits.

Andy Hadden, founder of the resort, was honored by the distinction:

“It’s not every day you’re recognized as the world’s best and it is incredibly humbling. It reflects the dedication of our team, the belief of our partners, and the support of the surfing community who’ve backed us from the beginning."

Back to Gladys, the wave pool whisperer. Here’s his take on Lost Shore:

“Lost Shore was a top experience among surf parks I’ve visited. Every part of the guest experience is accounted for, including fun waves to surf, places to stay overnight, a food hub offering many options and fun ancillary activities. I felt like a valued customer and that I got my money’s worth.”
