There's a new twist to one of the most storied names in surfing, "Morning Of The Earth", and that means that there are new boards--inspired by classic designs--for surfers everywhere to froth over. For those who don't know, the original Morning Of The Earth, released in 1972, is one of the most celebrated surf films of all time, directed by Australian filmmaker Albert Falzon--think of it as a more psychedelic and spiritual response to the clean-cut "Endless Summer" by Bruce Brown.
Made famous by Michael Peterson's iconic cutback, for over 50 years MOTE has embodied a classic, pure style of surfing that was both timeless and future-forward. Arguably the exact moment that high-performance was born, experimental and cosmic in nature, surfboard designs were moving forward sometimes daily while new approaches to wave-riding were explored by MP and crew. And that's where the iconic MOTE surfboard label enters the conversation.
Shaper Matt Parker has been whittling a few MOTE blades as of late, and the boards are now live and available on the new website. Before you click away, they look incredible. The manufacturing and marketing are being managed by Uncomun Senses, a multi-faceted and highly creative agency run by Parker, Larissa Clark, and Michael Townsend. Uncomun Senses also manages three other surf brands: Album, XO Coco Surf and Resonance, and has collaborated with an array of other clients such as Burkard Studio, ROARK, FCS, Futures, Aloha Collection, Warstic, and Ol Pal Cannabis.
“Morning of the Earth Surfboards is inspired by the spirit of a timeless era in surfing, brought to life by Morning of the Earth (1972). Our mission is to revive and reimagine the soulful, intuitive designs that defined this era, reinterpreting them with modern performance in mind.”
Albert Falzon
The new lineup of boards strikes the perfect balance of nostalgia and modern sensibility, with artwork heavily inspired by the classic film and shapes and designs that resonate with today's surf culture. There are many variations of twin fins and twinzers available in a size that features a compact fish shape, the Radiance, on up to bigger mid-lengths, like the Samadhi, Kailasha, or the Illuminator, that could go well in everything from small California surf all the way on up to pumping Indonesian point breaks.
We'll certainly be looking to get our hands on some of these classic blades soon and report back with some user feedback. If you're in the market for a new blade, be sure to check out the website for the full lineup.
