The jaw-dropping footage coming out of Teahupo’o from this run of swell has just been nonstop as locals and visitors have pushed the limits. The timing of this run couldn’t have been more lined up for a star-studded affair as the waiting period for the WSL event starts today and all the CT talent was already in Tahiti as things started to get XL.

No surprise that free surfing big wave heavies like Kai Lenny and Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca along with locals like Eimero Czermak, Matahi Drollet, and Kauli and Aelan Vaast were all over this swell and raising the bar of what's possible at the end of the road. Eimeo and Matahi have been particularly fearless as they each have shown just how well they know the wave and what they can do when their local break comes roaring to life.

Perhaps most impressive to many has been what the ladies have done over the past few days as they’ve been towing into bombs alongside the men. Kauli’s younger sister, Aelan (pronounced “ai-lan”) towed into a monster wave and deftly avoided disaster as a stray board floated directly into her path just as the thick lip started to fold. In a day of heavy waves, hers stood out as one of the heaviest. She is 20 years old and was towed in by older brother who called her, “my idol”.

Izzi Gomez got an incredible wave just two days after arriving in Tahiti after making a last minute decision to come over for the swell. Her boards didn’t make it at first and so she waited until they arrived and proceeded to tow into a bomb like a champion. She called it, "the craziest day of my life."

While the swell is forecasted to gradually come down and settle into still-pumping paddle sized waves for the start of the CT, it sure won’t be a dull start of the event and we’ll continue to unpack the action that has unfolded over the past few days. There have been some ace photographers swimming in the channel, as well as plenty of boats shooting and filming, so we’ll get plenty more primo content coming soon.
