The seasons are changing in southern California – even if the current, chilly water temperatures indicate otherwise. Spring has officially sprung, which is usually a fickle and frustrating season for SoCal in terms of swell, but that means summer’s right around the corner. So close we can taste it.
In anticipation of the summer season, prominent documentarian of Orange County surf antics – Beefs T.V. (aka Chris Monroe) – has dug into his archives to provide a lookback at the greatest, gnarliest, and biggest rides he’s ever captured at the Wedge. This isn’t the carnage we’re used to seeing from Newport Beach’s infamous aquatic chiropractor; these are the glory rides, the makes, the few-and-far-between successful rides from the shorebreak freak of nature. Hit play below.
According to Beefs:
“This is a collection of the biggest and sweetest glory rides I've filmed from the The Wedge. This is an accumulation of over 6 years and some of the best days, granted there's plenty more I couldn't dig up. The Wedge in all its gnarliness is usually gonna end (90% of the time) with the wave winning and the rider at the mercy of full chaos but every once and a while you strike gold.
“When in doubt, definitely don't go out! To all the shredders I can name striking gold in this includes: Tyler Stanaland, Addy Giddings, Mason Ho, Kei Kobayashi, Tyler Thornsley, Tanner McDaniel, Cutback Chris RC Surfer, Sage Burke, Timmy Reyes, Robbie Crawford, Craig Whetter, Kai Thompson, George Bryan, Brad Domke, Blair Conklin, Tommy Cantrell, Jeff Hubbard, Dawson Sherman, Tosh Tudor, Bobby Okvist, Kalani Robb, Tyler Gunter, Johnny Weber and more!”
Wedge season is nigh. Stay tuned.
