Whether you’re a devout altruist, a believer in karmic forces, or just lending a hand to get a cocktail of feel-good endorphins, we know there are multiple reasons to pitch in time and money to a worthwhile cause.

Regardless of motivations, if you're looking to support something that benefits you, your fellow surfers and the marine environment in general, consider the Surfrider Foundation this Giving Tuesday. For 40 years the nonprofit has advocated for beach access, rallied against ocean pollution and kept some of the world’s most popular waves in pristine form. It’s an entity for surfers, by surfers. From organizing local cleanups to dealing with the highest levels of the United States government, Surfrider has stepped up to the plate and swung for the fences.

Today, Surfrider is asking for a little help in return. During this fundraising drive, up to $150,000 in donations will be doubled courtesy of the good folks at Reef. Your dollars will help the nonprofit’s short and long-term goals. Specifically, they’ll address a Climate Action Program, which focuses on natural solutions to coastal resilience and tackling climate change at its roots, and litigation efforts to hold major polluters accountable, ensuring oceans and coastlines are protected for future generations.

“As I reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made in our 40th anniversary year, I’m filled with gratitude and optimism for what’s ahead,” Dr. Chad Nelsen, Surfrider’s CEO, said in a statement. “From launching our Climate Action Program to taking on corporate giants like ExxonMobil in our fight against plastic pollution, Surfrider is expanding our efforts like never before. This year is a pivotal moment in our mission, and I want to invite you to step into this historic opportunity with us.”
