It’s been a four-year hiatus between videos for the team at Octopus, the surf accessories brand that (ironically) dubbed itself “massive corporate juggernaut.” The brand's ethos was distributed to the masses in the form of high-energy, uptempo edits from some of the best freesurfers in the world.

But there hasn’t been a clip since Brendon Gibbens' team part in August 2021. That all changed yesterday when the corporate stiffs publicly released Mission Control, a 32-minute unabashed shred fest with 10 stellar surfers from its roster. Minimal B-roll and plenty of A-grade clips.

Mission Control stars a union of talent that includes Robbie McCormick, Harry Bryant, Chippa Wilson, Ian Crane, Kael Walsh, Dion Agius, Nate Tyler, Brendon Gibbens, Micky Clarke and Dylan Graves. As you can imagine, the surfing is high-level, and the waves and styles are diverse. A good group to vouch for the adhesiveness of traction and the reliability of a leash.

I found Kael Walsh's part to be particularly impactful. The 26-year-old from Yallingup, Western Australia, doesn't hold back on anything, whether it's a North Point end section of a heaving tube, board-buckling tube. Keep your eye on this guy. Not to be outdone, 40-year-old Dion Agius keeps the young guns honest with consistently solid airs and reliable rail work. The seemingly ageless Tasmanian is a creative force with velocity. He got signed by Former this year and is running the marketing behind the Australian eyewear brand, Ritual Vision.

If punk rock and front pads aren't your thing, best avert your gaze.
