The heavy fog banks made their appearance to force only four heats of action at the EDP Ericeira Pro, but they did not disappoint. An explosive start for Peru’s former CTer, Lucca Mesinas, went excellent to set the standard on Day 2. But, a shift in the rankings continued following Mesinas’ big heat win as 2025 Challenger Series success story Luke Thompson helped deliver a major blow alongside Japan’s Shohei Kato to eliminate current Challenger Series No. 1 Jacob Willcox. Plus, former CTers Edgard Groggia and Ian Gentil, who, along with Shion Crawford, eliminated Kanoa Igarashi, made their moves into the Round of 32 as the remaining top seeds await their starts at Riberia D’Ilhas alongside women’s top seeds. Next call for competition will be 7:30 a.m. WEST for a possible 8:05 a.m. WEST start. The EDP Ericeira Pro is the 4th stop of the Challenger Series. Currently seated at No. 5 in the rankings, Portugal's Francisca Veselko will be hungry to win in front of her home crowd, but she'll have to surpass current No. 3 Sally Fitzgibbons who won the event in 2024. As the only pathway to pro surfing’s highest level of competition, the Championship Tour, and the stop in Portugal will be a defining moment for athletes looking to be a part of the next generation of professional surfing history.
