“It’s looking pretty darn good,” says big wave filmmaker Tim Bonython towards the beginning of his latest edit, showcasing the second day of Cape Solander’s recent biggest swell in 10 years. “It’s perfect. The winds are dead offshore. I think we’re going to get some proper barrels today.”

Over Easter Weekend, Cape Solander reclaimed its former glory as Cape Fear – a name that stuck since the historic Red Bull event in 2016 – and showed its teeth for what many were calling the “day of the decade.”

If that Good Friday swell was a disorganized Ours appetizer, then what came next was a well-proportioned entrée. “On Easter Saturday, the ocean settled into something special… the kind of Cape we dream about but rarely get,” Tim wrote. “Clean lines. Heavy slabs. And a lineup packed with some of the best to ever do it.”

With solid 8-10 foot slabs bludgeoning the rocks, the lineup was indeed packed. Bodyboards, paddlers and towers all got in the mix. Tim’s video captures the frenzy of activity. There are many, many quality waves here. Kipp Caddy, Max McGuigan, Kirk Flintof, Rickie Vaculik, Oscar Berry, Kash Brown and a dozen more local legends all squared up with the bowl. Nathan Florence himself had to put Ours on his Slab Tour itinerary (check out his first bomb at the 16:27 mark).

Ours ain't perfect. Far from it, by the carnage above. But thanks to the bravery/lunacy of the boys in this clip, it is always a show.
