Watching new Bobby Martinez footage is like finding a tub of ice cream back in the freezer. No matter how long it's been hidden, it stays cool and goes down easy. Not even long dry spells can erase the sweet speed of his surfing.
One of Santa Barbara’s most consistent, talented and underground surfers doesn’t get in the water as much as he used to these days. But when he does, it’s usually well worth his time.
No techy airs, no full rotations. Just easy speed and smooth transitions before a big ol’ jam. It’s Bobby Martinez, you know how this works.
A few years back, Bobby wanted a board that would fit seamlessly into his surfing routine and add enough spark when required. Something that would make the most out of predominantly gutless surf around his local lineups in Santa Barbara and Ventura. Something stable, reliable, easy to ride and could live in the back of his van. So Britt Merrick and the Channel Islands Surfboards team came up with the Bobby Quad.
According to CI’s description: “The Bobby Quad has a low entry rocker that goes into a flat planing surface under the gas pedal portion of the board that provides the speed to get into waves and over those flat sections. The exit rocker and bottom contours are designed to be all business - with performance oriented flip and generous double concave for added lift to help Bobby boogie down the line in gutless waves. Its tail rocker profile, combined with some width in the tail and modified swallow, provide speed and hold during quick directional changes.”
For reference, Bobby is riding a 5’2” x 19” x 2 5/16” during this session. But enough tech talk. Let the man rip in.
