West Coast Board Riders Teams to Clash This Weekend at Ponto for Season Finale

The West Coast Board Riders 2023/2024 season’s end looms with the Sun Bum at Ponto South region finale beginning Saturday, May 4. It’s all or nothing for Encinitas, Oceanside, Carlsbad, and La Jolla Board Riders vying for U.S. Board Riders Club National Championships presented by New Earth Project. Only two clubs will secure their place for an appearance at Lower Trestles, but a tantalizing opportunity to claim the “High Third” also awaits.

Encinitas Board Riders currently sit atop the rankings by a slim margin, currently holding 187.52 points, over the field after their second event at Seaside Reef was canceled due to weather. Oceanside Board Riders find themselves in second place with 179.60 points and Carlsbad in third sitting on 176.84.

“With our home turf event at Seaside Reef not running and only two contests this season, our club is fired up to make the cut for Lowers,” said Encinitas Board Riders Club co-founder Jason Shook. “We’ll be throwing everything we can at the final stop at Ponto this weekend. We’re coming off a huge win at the Battle of the Board Riders specialty event just before the Jack’s Pro so we’re really stoked to keep that momentum going.”

A stake for the “High Third Wildcard” is also on tap. The highest scoring team across all regions who is not qualified for the National Championships earns the title and a place among the battle for USBRC glory. The target for “High Third Wildcard” rests with Dana Point Board Riders’ 367.45 points and is feasible for the top three teams in the rankings to achieve. But, crazier things have happened at WCBR events and La Jolla is far from out of the picture should a miracle ensue.
