2024 finalist Bianca Andreescu and Maria Sakkari accept Libema Open's Hertogenbosch wildcards
IPA

Bianca Andreescu reached the final of the 2024 Libema Open 's-Hertogenbosch losing from a set up to Liudmila Samsonova and she will return this year after accepting a wildcard to the event. Maria Sakkari has also accepted an invite.

As was mooted in our article around her next steps, Andreescu will no doubt be attempting to play earlier than expected after losing from match point up against Nao Hibino earlier this week.

Now the Canadian will not play at Roland Garros and heads into the grass court season. Albeit she will return to the clay to play Hopman Cup in Bari ironically in July after Wimbledon.

But the road to the Grand Slam in London begins now for the Canadian and she will play between 7-15 June, 2025. It has been a semi-successful route back for the former US Open champion who dazzled last year in this event.

She performed well in Rome in particular losing to Zheng Qinwen in the Last 16 after defeating Elena Rybakina but unfortunately for her, she went on to lose to Hibino in Roland Garros qualifying.

After thrashing her opponent in her opening qualify gambit, Andreescu looked to be doing the same against Hibino but faltered. She now won't play at Roland Garros and now moves onto grass.

Maria Sakkari will play at Roland Garros but faces an uphill struggle. Albeit she lost first round last year, she likely faces Karolina Muchova in the second round.

She has shown green shoots in the past month or so but is in heavy danger of falling behind Andreescu and out of the top 100. So she will need a wildcard for this event and has accepted one.

Seemingly with Wimbledon also in her mind, she has ben added to a field which on paper only really had Collins, Samsonova and Alexandrova but adds much needed star power on the week of Queen's in London which has decimated potential top stars heading to Rosmalen.
