After 5 months of absence, Eugenie Bouchard returns on court at the Dallas Open to face Serena Williams’ best friend, Caroline Wozniacki

Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard has announced through a story on her Instagram page that she will be playing against Caroline Wozniacki in the Dallas Open that starts on February 4. The 29-year-old retired from tennis to pursue a career in pickleball after the 2023 US Open and will be playing a tennis match in five months.

Many tennis players who are either on the brink of retirement or did not find much success in the sport have transitioned to pickleball in the last few months for the sake of their careers, and Eugenie Bouchard was one of them. The Canadian reached the peak of her form in 2014 when she reached the final of Wimbledon only to lose against Petra Kvitova. That year, she also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the French Open

However, Eugenie Bouchard’s form in the last few years has been below average at best. She has been unable to reach the main rounds of any of the Grand Slams in the last four years and that signifies the massive drop in form that the Canadian has suffered. Thus, her decision to switch to pickleball and play in the PPA tour was a good one. Doubles player Jack Sock was also among the players who transitioned to pickleball after the 2023 US Open.

Caroline Wozniacki, who also made her comeback to tennis after a long break only in the 2023 Canadian Open, has comparatively been in much better form. She reached the round of 16 of the 2023 US Open, which was her first Grand Slam tournament after her return. Recently, she reached the second round of the Australian Open.

Eugenie Bouchard vs Caroline Wozniacki Head-to-head record

Eugenie Bouchard and Caroline Wozniacki have played a total of two matches against each other and both have won one match each. However, those matches took place a long time ago.

They played their first match back in 2014, when Bouchard was in the form of her life. She defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the 2014 Wuhan Tennis Open and lost to her in the 2017 Hong Kong Tennis Open.

It is an exhibition match and obviously, both players will not play with that much intensity. Yet, Wozniacki is expected to win the match with ease, as she is in great form. On the other hand, Bouchard has not stepped on a tennis court in a long while.
