Alexander Zverev quietly confident ahead of Wimbledon: 'I think I can play well here'

Alexander Zverev, the world number three, is feeling confident ahead of the upcoming grass-court major at Wimbledon. Coming off the back of solid preparation on grass — where he reached the semi-final at the Terra Wortmann Open and the final at the Boss Open — there is every reason to believe in the German’s chances.

Speaking at his pre-tournament press conference for Wimbledon, Zverev acknowledged that some people have been writing off his chances, despite his strong form and current position as world number three in the ATP rankings. He said that people are forgetting about his consistent performances and the high-level contests he has come through in the lead-up to SW19.

Zverev seems to possess all the tools needed to be successful at Wimbledon. With an accomplished baseline game and a solid serve, there is every chance that—should the German find comfort on grass—he could go all the way. While the likes of Jack Draper, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are leading the way in pundit predictions, this may work in Zverev’s favour as he looks to put together a strong run at SW19.

Speaking about his chances at this year’s Wimbledon, Zverev said:

“I’ve had pretty good preparation—you know, I played a final, played a semi-final, worked through those tournaments as well. I mean, I think people are forgetting I’m still number three in the world, and I’m number three in the race [ATP rankings], so I’ve had a few losses here and there that weren’t maybe normal or were maybe unexpected, but all in all I feel like my form has been coming back the last few weeks and months. I’m looking forward to the Championships—I think I can play well here".

Looking back on Alexander Zverev’s past year, it has not been an easy run. He has secured only one title in 2025, which came at a home event for the German in Munich. Additionally, Zverev has yet to win a Grand Slam title, despite reaching three finals. It would be understandable if he were experiencing some Grand Slam malaise following those heartbreaking losses—but there are no signs of that.

The German now appears to be looking ahead to Wimbledon with renewed optimism. His chances seem strong at a time when tennis is crying out for someone to disrupt the dominance of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev’s campaign begins on the 30th of June on Centre Court, as he takes on the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
