All-American matchups highlight U.S. Open women's second round

More Americans highlight Wednesday

American Iva Jovic, the 14th seed, against Polish player Magdalena Frech was one of the highlighted matches for Tuesday. Frech and Jovic were suspended by rain at 4-4 in the first set. They are scheduled as the third match on the Grandstand. 

Americans Caty McNally and Emma Navarro will play the second match on the Grandstand on Wednesday. McNally entered the U.S. Open with an 18-10 record in 2026. Navarro is 21-19 after missing time because of an illness. Navarro is 2-3 in Grand Slams in 2026.

McNally and Navarro have split their four career matches. This is the second consecutive year McNally and Navarro are playing in the second round of the U.S. Open. McNally won 6-2, 6-1 in 2025. Navarro beat McNally 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 on grass in June in their most recent meeting.

Marta Kostyuk, one of the hottest players on the WTA Tour in 2026, and 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens are the second match at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday. Kostyuk beat Stephens 7-5, 7-5 in the third round of the Cincinnati Open in August in their only meeting.

Kostyuk entered the U.S. Open with a 32-8 record in 2026, including 10-3 in Grand Slams. After a first-round loss in the Australian Open, Kostyuk advanced to the semifinals at the French Open and Wimbledon. 

Stephens entered the U.S. Open with a 15-17 record, with first-round losses at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in her Grand Slam appearances.
