This week has already seen some big coaching changes following Iga Swiatek’s decision to part ways with Wim Fissette, but it doesn’t stop there. Despite arguably having the best year of her career, Amanda Anisimova has decided to part ways with coach Rick Vleeshouwers.
The American took to Instagram to announce the decision, saying, “It’s been quite the ride and journey together. Last year holds so many special moments and achievements together that I will never forget! We picked up some trophies and incredible milestones, but all the laughs and behind the scenes moments I’ll carry with me even more.” She thanked the outgoing coach for his time with her.
The Dutchman teamed up with her midway through the 2024 season, and it only improved from then on. This turn of fortunes was highlighted by her run to the final at Wimbledon 2025, where she was soundly beaten by Iga Swiatek, having failed to win a single game, in what can only be described as a horror show. She, however, showed her resilience by reaching the US Open final a few months later, where, despite losing to Aryna Sabalenka, she put up a more spirited performance, with the World #1 occasionally on the ropes during the match.
It was hoped that she would carry that momentum into 2026; however, it has been what can only be described as an underwhelming year so far, as she has failed to really impose herself on Tour. In recent weeks, she has managed only two wins per tournament in Indian Wells and Miami, both times crashing out in rather tame fashion. Before that, there were early exits in Brisbane and Qatar. She did manage to reach the quarters of the Australian Open, but this change suggests she’s not quite happy with how her season has unfolded so far. How much this run of form factored into the decision to move on is uncertain.
The timing of the change is also interesting, coming just before the clay season gets underway. Attention will now inevitably turn to who takes over the vacant seat and what impact her next appointment will have on her career. Aged 24 years, it certainly feels like it’s time for the American to get going, having been touted as a player to watch out for early on in her career.
