The 2026 edition of the ATP Auckland Classic is all set for an exciting close as the seventh seed Sebastian Baez takes on the third seed Jakub Mensik. As ever, we preview and predict the final match for you. But who will win the title?
Head-to-head: first meeting
What a week Sebastian Baez has had. While Jakub Mensik was a likely candidate to make the final, not many would have anticipated Baez coming to the party. The Argentine has impressed this week with dominant performances over the likes of Jenson Brooksby, Marcos Giron and Ben Shelton. While all of his seven titles have come on the clay, this may be his best chance to add a hard court title to his name. It is his first non clay final as well.
Mensik on the other hand was tested thoroughly in his semifinal match against Fabian Marozsan. What would have been encouraging for the Czech was the way he dominated the third set to win 6-1. The Czech heads to the Australian Open seeded 16th and he will be looking to start the season with a bang.
It will be a very interesting matchup to say the least given Baez’s tenacity and defensive skills pitted against Mensik’s aggressive game play from the baseline. Expect Baez to nab a set as he looks to be in form but Mensik’s firepower looks likely to be deciding factor on courts that are playing a little fast. The Czech is the bigger server and that should mean more free points and Baez looks likely to struggle on his own serve which can prove pivotal.
Prediction: Mensik in 3
