ATP 500 Beijing 1/8-Finals

Cobolli – Tien: 28.09.2025 05:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting

Flavio Cobolli has won three of his last five matches. Last week, Cobolli played in the Laver Cup. He lost his singles match against Fonseca in straight sets. This will be his second appearance in Beijing. In the opening main draw round, Cobolli upset Rublev in straight sets. He played better under pressure and deservedly won. He trailed 2-5 in the opening set, but turned it around. Last season, the Italian lost to Medvedev in the quarterfinals in straight sets.

Learner Tien has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Hangzhou, Tien lost to Royer in the quarterfinals in three tight sets. This is his debut campaign in Beijing. He hopes for a solid result this week to return to the top 50. In the opening main draw round, Tien defeated Cerundolo in three tight sets. After losing the opening set 4-6, Tien stepped up his level and turned the match around. He trailed in the second and third sets, but showed his resilience.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Cobolli is the slight favourite in this matchup, and we agree. He is having a breakthrough season and enjoys playing on every surface. After turning the match around against Rublev, we expect Cobolli to come into this matchup fully confident. Skill-wise, Cobolli is a better player than Tien.

That being said, Cobolli winning is a value bet.

Medvedev – Davidovich Fokina: 28.09.2025 08:30 CEST
H2H: 4-1

Daniil Medvedev has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Hangzhou, Medvedev lost to Wu in the quarterfinals in three tight sets. This is his third appearance in Beijing. In the opening round, the Russian defeated Norrie in straight sets. He lost his serve twice. However, his return game was brilliant. Last season, Medvedev lost to Alcaraz in the semifinals. A year before, he finished as a runner-up.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has lost three of his last five matches. The last match he played before the ATP Beijing was at the US Open, where he lost to Rinderknech in the second round in a tight five-set match. This is his third appearance in Beijing. In the opening main draw round, Davidovich Fokina defeated Ugo Carabelli in straight sets. He delivered his best tennis and served great, saving all three breakpoints. He hopes for a solid result to secure his spot in the top 20. Last season in Beijing, the Spaniard lost against Rublev in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this will be a 50-50 matchup, but we disagree. Medvedev knows how to play against Davidovich Fokina. He leads 4-1 in head-to-head meetings. The Russian enjoys playing long rallies behind the baseline. His baseline game is better than Fokina’s on hard. We expect him to be a better player with a better tactic for this 1/8-Final match.

That being said, Medvedev winning is a value bet.
