The quarterfinal lineup at the ATP Chengdu Open is set with the stage set for another entertaining day of tennis in China. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all four matches, as well as the action in Huangzhou. But who will secure their spot in the semifinals?

ATP Chengdu Quarterfinal Predictions

Alejandro Tabilo vs Christopher O’Connell

Head-to-head: Tabilo 3-0 O’Connell

Alejandro Tabilo’s season is finally on the right track. He was a runner-up in the Guangzhou Challenger to kick off September and has tallied four wins in Chengdu (including two in qualifying) to reach his first ATP quarterfinal of 2025. One more win will be enough to confirm his top 100 return. And he will be looking forward to a fourth career meeting with Christopher O’Connell. Tabilo overpowered the Australian in their first two matches, and when they met in Guangzhou earlier this month, O’Connell was forced to retire after just three games. Tabilo’s recent upturn in fortunes should continue here.

Marcos Giron vs Brandon Nakashima

Head-to-head: Nakashima 2-0 Giron

Brandon Nakashima beat defending champion Shang Juncheng in straight sets to pick up his first win in Chengdu. He’s still without back-to-back wins at Tour level since July. Marcos Giron, meanwhile, has already posted two wins in this tournament. He defeated Ethan Quinn in his opening match and then toppled Lorenzo Sonego to reach his first quarterfinal since Eastbourne. Giron is known for his work ethic and counterpunching skills. But Nakashima has that much more power and is the better defender.

Prediction: Nakashima in 2

Taro Daniel vs Alexander Shevchenko

Head-to-head: first meeting

Alexander Shevchenko was two points away from defeat in the last round but survived a tense second-set tie-break before prevailing 6-7 7-6 6-4 over the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The Kazakh withstood 24 aces in the match to complete one of his best wins. This will be his first quarterfinal on a hard court this season. Daniel entered this tournament with just seven wins all season, but he powered through the qualifying draw and upset each of Coleman Wong and third seed Tallon Griekspoor to secure an unlikely quarterfinal berth. Both players have been serving impeccably well during the week, hitting double-digit aces in the last round, making the outcome of this match anything but predictable.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Nikoloz Basilashvili

Head-to-head: Basilashvili 2-1 Musetti

This has been a positive week in the right direction for Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Georgian has shown a flicker of his old abilities to reach his first ATP quarterfinal since January. Basilashvili won two qualifying matches and hasn’t lost a set in the main draw. His ability to flatten out the forehand makes him dangerous because he’s got so much power to hit through most opponents. While there are encouraging signs that Basilashvili can trouble Lorenzo Musetti (he defeated him at Wimbledon earlier this year – his second win in three meetings), the Italian has an array of shots to negate all that power and extend the rallies to favour his style.

Prediction: Musetti in 3
