ATP Davis Cup – World Group Teams Men – Qualifying Semifinals

Fourteen nations compete in seven home-or-away ties, each played over two days:

Day 1: Two singles matches
Day 2: One doubles match followed by two singles matches

The participating teams include the winners of the 2025 Qualifiers 1st Round, along with one wildcard entry.

Japan – Germany: 12.09.2025 07:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting

1st potential matchup:

Nishioka – Struff

Yoshihito Nishioka is in terrible form. He is outside the top 150 in the rankings. The injuries stopped him for most of the season. The last match he played was in Shanghai at the Challenger Tour level, when he retired mid-match against Zhou in the opening round. On the other hand, Struff entered the top 100 after reaching the fourth round at the US Open. Struff was eventually stopped in the fourth round against Djokovic. He is coming into this match fully confident. We expect Struff to win easily.

2nd potential matchup:

Mochizuki – Hanfmann

Shintaro Mochizuki is on the verge of breaking into the top 100. He recently reached the second round at the US Open as a qualifier. Alex de Minaur demolished him in the second round in straight sets. On the other hand, Hanfmann lost in the opening qualifying round to Llamas Ruiz. The German struggled with his form this season. We expect Mochizuki to get the first win for Japan.

3rd potential matchup

Watanuki/Yuzuki – Krawietz/Puetz

Krawietz and Puetz are two of the most experienced doubles players in Davis Cup. They are in solid form, and we expect them to win easily against Watanuki/Yuzuki and get the second win for Germany. Yuzuki is a Challenger Tour-level player and will struggle under pressure.

4th potential matchup:

Mochizuki – Struff

Indoor hard courts are the Germans’ favourite surface. We expect him to dominate on his serve in this match and win his service games easily. Mochizuki does not have a heavy serve. Struff should break his serve at least once per set and win in straight sets. This will be their first head-to-head meeting. We expect Struff to get the third win for the Germans.

5th potential matchup:

Nishioka – Hanfmann

As previously mentioned, Nishioka struggled with injuries this season. He is far away from his best level. On the other hand, Hanfmann has also struggled this season. However, he had solid results at the Challenger Tour level. We expect Hanfmann to be a better player in this matchup.

Best Bet to Make

The Germans have more quality in their squad. Whilst singles players may be at the same level, the doubles players are way better for Germany. The Germans dominated Israel in the opening qualifying round. We expect a similar outcome this week against Japan as well.

That being said, Germany winning is a value bet.
