The ATP Eastbourne 250 series event is geared up for a great finish with only four men remaining in contention for the trophy. Who will reach the final is the big question and, as ever, we preview and predict both the semifinal matches for you.
Head-to-head – Brooksby 0-1 Humbert
Jenson Brooksby came into the main draw as a lucky loser but he has made the most out of it. The American hasn’t played much this year but he does look comfortable on the grass this week. He did win a title earlier in the year in Houston but since then hasn’t made much of an impression.
He faces Ugo Humbert, who has played a decent amount of matches this year and with his serve and volley game, the Frenchman is a dangerous opponent on grass.
Humbert will no doubt rely on his serve and Brooksby will be looking at disrupting the rhythm. While Brooksby has played a great tournament, Humbert will be the aggressor and his power game from the baseline should be consistent enough to get him the win.
Prediction: Humbert in 3
Head-to-head – Fritz 1-3 Davidovich Fokina
Taylor Fritz had a great start to the grass court season, reaching the final in Stuttgart but quickly came crashing down the following week with a first round exit at the Queen’s Club Championships in London. He has regrouped well this week with tough matches under his belt.
He takes on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who has gotten the better of Fritz three times out of four. However, this is their first meeting on grass and that makes things interesting.
Fokina should make this match a tight one but the Spaniard has always struggled to serve his way out, and that is something Fritz is more adept at. Despite the American needing three sets to close out his quarterfinal match, he looked in great serving form and that should be key to this match.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
