ATP Geneva Day 1 Predictions Including Nuno Borges vs Alex Michelsen

It’s an early start at the 2025 Gonet Geneva Open with two main draw matches scheduled for Sunday already, along with the remaining qualifying encounters. 2023 champion Nicolas Jarry has been struggling recently and would love to rediscover some of that magic that saw him claim the title at this venue. Nuno Borges will take on Alex Michelsen in the second match on Center Court. Who do you think will prevail?

ATP Geneva Day 1 Predictions

Reilly Opelka vs Sebastian Ofner

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a final round of qualifying match. Considering he just came back from a couple of foot surgeries, Sebastian Ofner’s level seems to be very strong at the moment. The rust was mostly showing in how he was handling pressure, but the game was there from the start. That doesn’t mean Reilly Opelka will be easy to handle. While Ofner is a natural on clay, the quick conditions in Geneva suit the American’s serve and he was already a semifinalist here in 2022. Opelka’s weapons make this close to a coin flip, but the recent vibes suggest Ofner has a small edge.
Prediction: Ofner in 3

Cameron Norrie vs Jenson Brooksby

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a final round of qualifying match and it could be a fascinating clash of two players with extremely unorthodox techniques. Jenson Brooksby made history as the first player to save match points three times in one event on the way to the Houston title, but later suffered a couple of horrible losses during the green clay Challenger swing. With Cameron Norrie you at least more or less know what you’re going to get and he has a lot more experience on the European version of the red dirt.
Prediction: Norrie in 2

Alexei Popyrin vs Nicolas Jarry

Head-to-head: Jarry 2-1

Nicolas Jarry’s game was always very tough to handle in the quick clay conditions in Geneva with the Chilean claiming the 2023 title and reaching the final in 2019. He needs a run right now with his ranking about to collapse after losing his Rome points from last year. The good thing is with this kind of playstyle, on paper he shouldn’t need much rhythm to suddenly wake up. Considering Alexei Popyrin’s mediocre form and how much Jarry loves these courts, this could be where he starts a bit of a resurgence.
Prediction: Jarry in 3

Nuno Borges vs Alex Michelsen

Head-to-head: 1-1

It will be fascinating to see what Alex Michelsen does here as while he recently claimed a clay-court title at the Challenger 175 in Estoril, he followed it up with a very disappointing defeat to Laslo Djere in Rome (0-6 3-6). The versatility he played with in Portugal was impressive and he was always balancing his game right in regards to going for the backhand down the line trademark or keeping the ball in play a while longer. This seems like a very open match, maybe the quicker conditions can slightly aid the American but it’s not clear.
Prediction: Michelsen in 3
