The 2026 ATP tennis season is ready to get started in Hong Kong, as players search for form and ranking points before the Australian Open. Who is ready for the season to start? And who needs to shake off some rust? As always, we predict all matches on slate for you. Who do you think will win?

ATP Hong Kong Day 1 Predictions

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Nishesh Basavareddy

This is a qualifying match, but I am really looking forward to it. Basavareddy rapidly improved through much of 2025, and his game really looks ready for the main Tour right now. I’m excited to see what he does in 2026, and that starts with a good run in Hong Kong.
Prediction: Basavareddy in 2

Damir Dzumhur vs Nuno Borges

Both of these men are generally considered journeymen, though both have won a title on the ATP Tour. Borges has more potential (though he’s running out of time to really find it), while Dzumhur is well past his best years.
Prediction: Borges in 3

Yibing Wu vs Fabian Marozsan

Both of these men burst onto the scene with a flash–Maroszan with an upset of Carlos Alcaraz two years ago, Wu winning a title in Dallas a few months earlier. Since then, neither has done too much major on the Tour, which is disappointing. Still, both of them will impress eventually. I’m guessing Marozsan does it faster, but I’ll take Wu in front of a home crowd for now.
Prediction: Wu in 3

Marin Cilic vs Adrian Mannarino

Both of these players are certainly well past their primes, but both also are still capable of high-level play. Mannarino has been in a bit of a bad slump for much of 2025, though he did temporarily break out of it at the US Open. Overall, it’s hard to trust the Frenchman’s level right now.
Prediction: Cilic in 2
