Defending champion Alexander Zverev kicks off his title defense at the ATP Paris Masters with a second-round match against clay-court specialist Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Will the German start with a win?

ATP Paris Day 3 Predictions

Casper Ruud vs Daniel Altmaier

Head-to-head: Ruud 1-0 Altmaier

Casper Ruud was in discomfort during the quarterfinal match against Davidovich Fokina in Basel. He had played a set, which he lost in a tiebreak, and had trouble with his foot. He was unable to finish the match, and his injury was later confirmed to be an ankle issue. How quickly he recovers will be crucial to his chances of winning his second Masters title and potentially qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin. A healthy Ruud should scale past Altmaier, whose opening win against Marcos Giron hardly masks his recent three-match losing streak.
Prediction: Ruud in 2

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Cerundolo 2-0 Kecmanovic

Cerundolo has a 61% win rate in 2025, which is his highest in a single season. One more win will equal the 38 victories he recorded two years ago ,and the 27-year-old is within touching distance of rejoining the Top 20. But the second half of the season has been largely disappointing for the Argentine, whose deepest run was the semifinal finish at the ATP 250 in Bastad. By comparison, Kecmanovic has won two main draw matches since his quarterfinal run in Winston-Salem in August. One of those was in the opening win this week against Kovacevic. It’s a match that Cerundolo should dictate on his terms with his forehand acceleration among the best on tour.
Prediction: Cerundolo in 3

Alex de Minaur vs Gabriel Diallo

Head-to-head: De Minaur 1-0 Diallo

On paper, this is a tough opening match for Alex de Minaur, who needs to win to keep up with the chasing pack in ATP Finals qualification. Gabriel Diallo is a perennial danger on this surface with his humongous serve and explosive power. But his level has noticeably dipped as the season comes to a close. De Minaur has something tangible to chase this week, and the Australian will be fully engaged to deliver.
Prediction: De Minaur in 3

Alexander Zverev vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli

Head-to-head: Zverev 1-0 Ugo Carabelli

Last season, Alexander Zverev won this tournament without facing a single seed. The German is unlikely to have that luxury this week with both of the world’s top two committing to play in Paris. He does have a kind draw to begin his title defense. Camilo Ugo Carabelli plays his best tennis on clay, where he has won over 200 competitive matches. On indoor hard courts, he has a 2-3 lifetime record, although he notched an impressive straight-sets win against countryman Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round. It is a match that should give Zverev enough lift to try and adapt to the new venue and surface.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
