There is plenty to play for at the ATP Stockholm Open with a place in Turin still on the cards for two of those in action semifinals day. As always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for every match on the slate, as well as the action at ATP Brussels and ATP Almaty. But who will book their spot in the final?

ATP Stockholm Semifinal Predictions

Holger Rune vs Ugo Humbert

Head-to-head: Rune 5-0 Humbert

Holger Rune defeated Marton Fucsovics and Tomas Martin Etcheverry, while Ugo Humbert overcame Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego. The Dane’s dominant head-to-head record against Humbert indicates this will be a challenging matchup for the 27-year-old. However, only one of those matches occurred indoors, and that was back in 2022 at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Since then, Humbert has become one of the most formidable indoor hard-court players worldwide.

Four of the Frenchman’s seven ATP singles titles have come indoors despite tournaments played under roofs occupying a small part of the tennis calendar. Humbert will be more confident when attacking against Rune. The conditions in Stockholm are a particularly good fit for his game, and I expect this to be Rune’s toughest challenge against Humbert. The 2022 Paris Masters winner has been shaky in close matches this season. He might falter again here.

Casper Ruud vs Denis Shapovalov

Head-to-head: Ruud 2-1 Shapovalov

Casper Ruud dug in to beat 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic and Sebastian Korda in the previous rounds and book his spot in the semifinals. Denis Shapovalov set up this meeting with victories against the Swedish pair Leo Borg and Elias Ymer. Beyond the grass, you would think that Shapovalov’s best chance of defeating Ruud is on an indoor hard court. The Canadian will have an opportunity to rush Ruud and utilize his serve.

This year’s Madrid Open champion might benefit from being pushed very hard by Korda. The Norwegian’s 6-7 6-4 6-4 triumph over the American was among the tournament’s best matches. Although Shapovalov lost a set against Borg and Ymer, he won those encounters without being near his best. The former world #10 will almost certainly need a better performance in the semifinal.

Ruud has adapted his game impressively to the conditions in Stockholm. He can rise to the challenge against Shapovalov, and his ability to target Shapovalov’s left-handed backhand in cross-court rallies could prove crucial.

Prediction: Ruud in 3
